The complete real name of Hazrat Syed Muhammad Gaisu Daraz was Syed Abdul Fatah Bin Syed Yousaf Bin Syed Ali. He is also known as Khawaja Banda Nawaz Gaisu Daraz. He was a very famous Indian Sufi scholar and mystic.

Hazrat Syed Muhammad Gaisu Daraz was a descendant of Sher-e-Khuda, Bab-ul-Ilm Syed o Sardar Hazrat Ali Ibne Abi Talib Al Murtaza. His forefathers came to Delhi from Hirat and settled down in India. He was born on 4th of the Rajab 720 hijri at Delhi. When he was ten years old, his father died and his maternal grandfather looked after him.

He is regarded as a great saint of Silsila-e-Chishtiya. Under the guidance of Hazrat Nasiruddin Chiragh Dehlvi, he engaged himself in prayers and meditation and so much enjoyed them that lie forbade studies and requested his teacher to allow him to do so. Hazrat Nasiruddin strictly denied him permission and instructed him to study with attention Usool-e-Bizoori, Risals Shamsia, Kashaf, Misbah so he restarted the studies under the guidance of renowned teachers. Hazrat Maulana Syed Sharifuddin Kaithli, Hazrat Maulana Tajuddin Muqaddam and Hazrat Maulana Qazi Abdul Muqtadir and qualified for the degree at the age of nineteen.
